Course Details
Wakatipu High School provides a comprehensive specialist
curriculum for students with an emphasis on academic
achievement and goal setting to attend university,
polytechnic or other tertiary institutions. We provide and
support numerous extracurricular activities and sports. The
wonderful Queenstown environment sets the scene for a unique
outdoor recreation programme. An
excellent ESOL programme includes up to two hours tuition
each day, small classes, three levels and international
qualifications such as TOEFL and IELTS.
Location and Facilities
Queenstown is located in the lower half of New Zealand’s
South Island. Known as the 'adventure capital' of New
Zealand, it is famous for outdoor adventure activities such
as bungy jumping, jet boating, skydiving and white water
rafting. It is also well known for the two nearby skifields.
The school has excellent facilities: Modern buildings
include science laboratories, computer suites with full
internet connection, engineering workshops, library, music
centre and teaching/practice studios, drama auditorium and
many other specialist rooms in addition to more traditional
classrooms. Sports facilities include a heated indoor
swimming pool, large gymnasium room, rock climbing wall, six
outdoor tennis and netball courts and grassed sports fields.
Accommodation and Welfare
We are dedicated to providing high quality pastoral care and
homestay support. Queenstown is a safe environment for
students where homestay families are visited regularly by
staff. Our full-time programme Director supervises all
aspects of this. We are a signatory to the Ministry of
Education's New Zealand Code of Practice for the Pastoral
Care of International Students.
International Students
Wakatipu High School is a culturally diverse school whose
student population has a broad view of the world and its
opportunities. All students who attend Wakatipu High School
have the opportunity to reach their full academic, physical
and social potential in a positive and caring environment.
