Nelson College for Girls was established in 1883 by settlers who wanted to ensure their daughters would receive high quality education.  This continues to be our goal.

Course Details

The college aims to give each student a broad general education in the first three years of her secondary schooling as a sound base for specialisation later. The course structure is constantly under review and balances breadth of outlook with a strong academic focus.

All students are assessed at arrival at College and placed in appropriate programmes. A full-time of up to one term intensive English course may be provided for all students who need more language skills before entering mainstream courses. On-going ESOL classes and subject support are also provided.

Location and Facilities

Nelson is located at the top of the South Island and is close to both beach and mountains. The college is a five minute drive from the airport and within easy walking distance of the city. The College is situated in beautiful park-like grounds. It has a wide range of up-to-date facilities such as a gymnasium, new technology block, computer suites, well equipped science laboratories and music rooms with a wide range of instruments and keyboards.
